We were eager at LEE to be a part of this barn renovation and to see the finished product!

The mares are loving their new stalls...EPIC! -Elma

Jim and Elma moved from California, where they previously owned a barn that is featured in our 2014 Barn Spotlight with LEE. The couple wanted to create a private equine facility for their beloved dressage horses in North Carolina - so that's what they did. The Cannavino's vision behind their dream barn was a "Modern Day Tobacco Barn'' setting. A contemporary design with state of the art amenities. They also have a covered arena with an underground water system - Jim's very own design.

The Cannavino's loved the gravity latch on their California stall fronts so much, they chose to use the same on their newest barn project. The gravity latch provides easy accessibility to each stall while remaining durable enough to last a life time. Check out the video tutorial below to see just how well the gravity latch works!

During the design process, Jim and Elma decided they wanted to maximize their stall front size. Just how big are the stall fronts you may ask? Well, their stall fronts are 20' wide! WOW! Creating such a large stall front is no small task. It takes our craftsman many hours to ensure each bar and crosshatch are strategically placed to ensure straight alignment to give that wonderful Lucas Equine look.

The attention to detail in their design is remarkable; as you can see in the image above the finials atop the sliding stall door creates an elegant look while maintaining a very user-friendly and safe stall system. Another bonus to the stall front system is the Integrated Watering System. There are two valve handles located on the center rail allowing the user to simply walk up to the stall, open the valve, and fill the bucket with water. The best part about this design - you never enter into the stall!

This can become a bit more complex in areas like North Carolina where the winter months can bring temperatures around or below freezing. How did the Cannavino's do this? Jim incorporated a closed loop system allowing the flow of water to loop through the plumbing preventing the pipes from bursting. This allows Jim and Elma to use their watering system year-round.
